Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.” NIV
For the last two weeks (and several more to come) I have been helping sort thru the belongings of a relative who has passed away. It has caused several reactions and observations in me.
First, is observing what was important in this person’s life. The things we leave behind are a very good indication as to where our values were. Keepsakes represent memories (other things perhaps hording). And then there are the things that we valued for whatever reason that show what we think important in life. For some it may be a collection, others it might be antiques, and for others?
Second observation is to watch the family and friends as they all jockey greedily to get junk. Not everyone, but it has drawn the vulture mentality out of quite a few. Should make for an interesting estate sale!
Yet in the end we leave it all behind. If only they could see us with trash bags throwing so much of it away! Things that were apparently so important being tossed away as junk!
“Yea, they are greedy dogs which can never have enough, and they are shepherds that cannot understand: they all look to their own way, every one for his gain, from his quarter.”
Isaiah 56:11 KJV
